Hi Sadzy, if you only have 3 days notice I think it would be better to buy your ticket further in advance (unless it's not all that important). I was told a year ago by a travel agency in Cusco that usually you can buy a ticket a few days in advance without a problem, but it's better to be safe than sorry as they say.

Hello, i am travelling to Peru in August, i was hoping to catch a flight from Cuzco on the 28th August 2010 to Puerto Maldonado, is it better for me to book it from the internet or when i am there. My only fear is that there will be no tickets available at short notice (3 days notice) as it is peak season.

Any recommendation, greatly appreciated.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but I think it's wrong. I just checked the Star Peru website and return flights between Cusco and Puerto Maldonado are currently in the region of $125 (for late April).

Star Peru do not have a two-tier price system the way that LAN does (which is why I will never fly LAN if I can help it). Star Peru charges tourists the same amount as the locals - at least if you're already inside Peru. If you're trying to buy a ticket from outside the country then it can be a lot more expensive sometimes.

Peru flights and trains gouge the tourists. Current April 2010 Flights to Puerto Maldonado from Cusco are approx $450 r/t on LAN airlines and $412 on Star Peru for a 50 minute flight. Probally the most expensive coach flight, per mile flown, I've seen in North or South America. Where and when did a legal $150 r/t flight exist in Peru for Tourists?
